The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olukayode Popoola, on Friday said Section One of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway reconstruction/rehabilitation project was 70 per cent completed.
The Federal Controller revealed these developments in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Friday.
He said that 39km out of the 43.6km Section One of the highway, spanning from Ojota in Lagos to Sagamu Interchange in Ogun State, had been constructed to the final layer.
Popoola said: “The total length achieved up to wearing course is about 39km out of 43.6km.
“That should be close to 70 per cent completion.”
Also, in a statement, Popoola said construction works between Warewa and Arepo had been completed for diversion points to be removed.
NAN reports that the Controller had on November 28 announced a six-day diversion on the one and half kilometres stretch for repairs.
Popoola said: “The laying of wearing course between Warewa and Arepo had been completed.
“The diversion of traffic that started from Monday will be restored back by Saturday, 4 December, 2021, by 11am.”
He thanked motorists and commuters for their cooperation and understanding, adding that the Federal Government is committed to the speedy completion of outstanding work to deliver the project in 2022.
NAN reports that Section One of the highway is being handled by Julius Berger, while Section Two, which starts from Sagamu Interchange and ends at Ojoo in Ibadan, Oyo State, is being handled by Reynolds Construction Company.
