The Minster of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on Wednesday reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment toward boosting the nation’s power generation to ensure effective power supply.
Fashola spoke through Abdul-Bala Mohammed, the Head, Health and Safety Division of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission at a three-day West African Power Industry Convention Conference in Lagos.
He said that the Federal Government was committed to exploiting other sources of energy to boost the existing generation.
According to him, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has committed itself to the development of the power sector.
Fashola said: “The Ministry of Power has designed an in-depth approach toward addressing power shortage in the country.
“These approaches include incremental power supply within a period of time, steady power supply within the minimum time and continuous and sustainable power supply within the long time period.
“These initiatives are supported by the plans, which are short term, medium term and long term improvement.
“We want to assure investors and power operators that the ongoing challenges facing the sector will soon be over.’’
Fashola said that the conference, being a gathering of stakeholders and professionals, was expected to address the challenges facing the power sector.
He appealed to stakeholders to come to stage and design a model that would find lasting solution to the nation’s power challenges.
The Chairman, House Committee on Power Sector, Daniel Asuquo, urged investors to encourage more investment.
Asuquo urged the experts to use the convention to find solution to the challenges facing the sector.
The chairmen said that if government and investors could reduce their shares and market them in the stock market, it would encourage more investment.
