The Vice President, Architect Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has received reports of various sub-committees of the Presidential Committee on the Review of Structure, Operation and Activities of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria.
Receiving the reports on Thursday at the State House, Abuja , Sambo reiterated the need for public sector partnership in the area of research, production of armament needed by the armed forces and commercialisation.
He noted that the armed forces should be careful in choosing the right partner, adding that government does not want the involvement of many agencies to avoid confusion in the process.
The sub-committees that presented its report were Defence Technology, Research and Development; Legal and Regulatory Issues; Funding, Market Development and Procurement Plan, and, Private Sector Participation and Technology Acquisition.
Sambo set up another committee headed by the Minister of State for Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada, to harmonise the position of all the four sub-committees for the main committee to present to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan within two weeks.
Obada had earlier said the country was working on a framework to allow public sector partnership in procurement and production of armament that the defence sector needed and the repositioning of DICON to compare with its counterparts in the other parts of the world.
