Hon. Joseph Bamgbose, member, House of Representatives, on Thursday assured Badagry residents that the contractor handling the reconstruction of the Gbaji-Apa-Owode road project would soon resume work.
Bamgbose, who is representing Badagry Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Party, gave this assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Badagry.
NAN reports that the reconstruction of Gbaji-Apa-Owode project was among the 14 road projects approved for reconstruction by the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on June 13.
The FEC approved N185.2 billion for the 14 road projects, out of which N4.366 billion was approved for the reconstruction of the Gbaji-Apa-Owode road.
The contract was awarded to SmithCrown Nigeria Ltd., Lagos with Contract No. 6454.
The lawmaker said though the reconstruction project was approved just three months ago, the residents were already worried over the slow pace of work.
He called on the Badagry residents to be patient with the Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing and the contractor.
He said: “This is the only road that will take me back to my village, why will I not support the successful completion of this laudable project.
“What I expect from our people is praises and not allegations; it is just three months now and we don’t expect magic from the contractor handling the project.
“I know what it took before the project was approved by the FEC.”
He urged the residents to be cautious of the things they post on the social media about him, saying that some residents had been alleging that he was hindering work on the road project.
Bamgbose said: “During my tenure as Chairman, Badagry West Local Council Development Area, I made efforts in collaboration with Lagos State Government to put palliative measures in place to make all roads motorable in Badagry.
“Let me say again that I am in support of any Federal Government project that falls within my federal constituency and I also stand on the cardinal points of our political party’s agenda.’’
