The meeting between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities once again ended in a deadlock on Tuesday.
The meeting is now to continue on Monday.
The leadership of ASUU, over a month ago, declared a dispute with the Federal Government on the failure to implement an agreement on the funding of universities reached in 2009.
Also on Tuesday, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, gave an indication that the Federal Government would be unable to meet its financial obligations concerning the agreement.
Okonjo-Iweala spoke in Minna Niger State ( http://69.64.87.143/news/asuu-strike-fg-broke-cant-meet-n92b-demand-okonjo-iweala/).
The Chairman of the Presidential Universities Needs Assessment Committee and Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, told newsmen after the meeting with the leadership of ASUU on Tuesday that there was hope the stalemate would be over soon.
Suswam said: “The meeting continues next week Monday.
“We made some progress.
“We had very fruitful discussion with ASUU and we have agreed we are to meet again on Monday at about 3 o’clock.
“When we meet again, we will be able to arrive at some decisions.”
However, the President of ASUU, Comrade Nasir Isa Fagge, refused to speak with newsmen.
Fagge told newsmen to speak with Suswam.
