A gang of robbers on Wednesday stormed the Constituency Project of the lawmaker representing Ota State Assembly in the Ogun State House of Assembly.
The lawmaker was later identified as Hon. Nurudeen Aina Akinpelu.
It is believed that they were able to gain entrance into the building by destroying the ceilings at the back of the building and centre of the passage corridor.
The robbers were said to have made away with computer accessories, laptops and projectors.
The Ota City Resource Centre was a few days ago commissioned by the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi.
The burglary hampered educational and other activities at the centre as some of the students had to stay away until policemen from Sango Divisional Police Station visited the scene.
Students who were supposed to make use of the projector abandoned lectures as their teachers could not get an alternative for the studies.
It was gathered that the robbers broke one of the ceiling at the back of the building situated at 128 Iganmode Road, beside Ota Post Office and gained entrance into the main building.
The lawmaker condemned the robbery, describing it as a setback to youth development in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
Akinpelu’s words: “I cannot imagine that some people can go to the extent of stealing educational materials that are meant to improve the knowledge of the youths.”
Akinpelu promised to replace the stolen items and also stated that security will be beefed up at the centre, adding: “The centre has come to stay and nobody can stop it.”
The centre’s coordinator, Akeem Otapo, described the robbery as a “very funny and one of the challenges of our society.
“When I heard it, it was very funny to me.
“I never believed that people could be very funny to the extent of coming to a place like this, where people are trained free of charge.”
