The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a woman Deputy Superintendent of Police attached to one of the divisions in the state for extortion.
The woman, name yet unknown, was said to be in the habit of extorting commercial bus drivers.
There are speculations that someone wrote a petition to the state Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, over the woman’s police conduct.
It was gathered that a team of policemen, from the newly-created CP Crack Squad, carried out surveillance for days and caught the DSP red handed, extorting drivers.
The DSP is however not the only one in police detention.
Also undergoing interrogation are two kidnappers and political thugs, among others.
A police source said that the total number of persons arrested within the past two weeks for corruption, kidnapping and thuggery are 25.
The suspects were nabbed in different areas of the state.
The suspects are presently being interrogated by the CP Crack Squad.
Another police source said that the kidnappers in question abducted a woman identified simply as Mrs. Bashorun at Ajah.
A team of investigators, led by Igbinanazaka Ugowe, trailed the kidnappers to their hideout and rescued the woman.
It was learnt that on sighting the police vehicle, the two suspected kidnappers took off and ran into a nearby bush along the Lagos-Epe Expressway.
Policemen pursued them into the bush and combed the bushes.
The two men were caught and arrested.
Similarly, two Bureau De Change robbers and eight suspected thugs were arrested at Alagbado and Isokoko-Agege areas while attempting to rob and attack their victims.
It was gathered that Aderanti gave the CP Crack Squad the order to flush out undesirable elements in the state.
The Port Authority Police in Apapa last week also arrested five vandals.
The suspects were swooped on by policemen led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the PAP, Bashir Abdulahi.
The five men were alleged to specialize in vandalisation of imported vehicles and containers at the Apapa Port terminal.
