Federal courts in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, resumed on Monday as the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria on Sunday suspended its three-week old strike.
The workers commenced the strike on January 2 to compel state governments’ to obey a court order that affirmed financial autonomy of the judiciary.
A correspondent of News Agency of Nigeria, who visited the National Industrial Court, Appeal Court and Federal High Court, all within the Adeoyo area of Ibadan, reports that workers reported for duty.
The suspension of the strike affects only federal courts, as states’ courts are still on strike.
NAN reports that though the workers reported for duty, the courts did not sit.
One of the registrars, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the courts cannot start sitting without lawyers picking new dates.
“As soon as new dates are picked, the judges would start sitting,” he said.
