It will be another contracts consideration galore as the Federal Executive Council meets again on Wednesday.
Top on the agenda of the FEC meeting this week is the revision of the contract sum for the procurement of Direct Data Capture machines for the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The memo for the revision of the contract sum for the DDC machines, to be presented by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, if approved, will see Nigeria shelling out $3,750,760 as additional cost for Value Added Tax for the importation that was done for the 2011 general election.
The importation of the DDC machines and other logistics for the 2011 general election by INEC, under the leadership of Prof. Attahiru Jega, had cost the nation billions of naira, with a lot of Nigerians complaining about the huge cost.
And this was despite the fact that INEC had before then acquired DDC machines, some of which were given to other government agencies such as the Nigeria Customs Service.
The FEC is also to consider a contract for the “augmentation of cost of consultancy services for the improvement of power supply to Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja-Lagos.”
The memorandum is scheduled for presentation by the Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah.
The airport has been undergoing renovation since last year.
The item for the review of the contract for the supply of foodstuffs and gas to prisoners was earlier scheduled for discussion last week but has been moved to this week.
President Jonathan is also to seek ratification for an anticipatory approval he gave for the award of a contract “in respect of 28 NO. Infrastructural development projects for the Niger Delta Development Commission.”
The Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, is also to seek the consent of the FEC for a credit of $77.73 million from the French Development Agency for the co-financing of the second national urban water sector reform project in Cross River and Lagos States.
The contract for the rehabilitation of the building of the Economic Community for West African States in Abuja is also up for consideration by the FEC.
There are three other contracts to be considered by the FEC on Wednesday.
These are the contracts for the construction of Sagbemi-Kiribo-Gada-Igbekibi Road in Ondo State, the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ilorin Road Section 1 and the extension of service lanes and rehabilitation of slip roads on River Niger Head Bridge and Upper Iweka Interchange in Onitsha, Anambra State.
