The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested 31 suspects and recorded massive haul of arms.
It was learnt that the Command has massively deployed personnel to flash points in and around the FCT.
The Commissioner of FCT Police Command, Bala Ciroma, disclosed this at a press briefing on Wednesday.
According to the CP, the security of the FCT remains the crux of the Command’s mandate, hence it has mapped out strategies to effectively perform its responsibilities, especially in view of the approaching Christmas and New Year Celebrations.
Ciroma said the Command has intensified vehicular and foot patrols, diligent stop and search operations, intelligence-based crime fighting strategies and constant raids on black spots, especially drug spots.
He stated that in line with the global paradigm shift in policing, the Command has continued to improve upon its community policing strategies by regularly engaging the community to provide actionable intelligence for proactive policing within the FCT.
The CP noted that it is worthy of note that one of the high points of the Command’s recent achievements was the cracking of a notorious car theft syndicate, which was not only achieved by the diligence of the Police Detectives on stop and search operation, but also by the effort of the victim who took precautionary measures, including installing a tracking device on his vehicle and promptly informed the Police of the incident.
He said as the Yuletide approaches, he appeals to residents to be more security conscious and provide timely information in case of emergency as the Command’s emergency lines are in circulation.
The CP sounded a note of warning to criminal elements within the FCT to desist from their nefarious activities or face the full wrath of the law.
He also reiterated the ban on the use of fireworks, also known as knock out, within the FCT, as all violators will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
Hence, parents and guardians were enjoined to prevail upon their wards ahead of the festive period.
Ciroma said he guarantees the FCT residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment toward the protection of lives and property within the Federal Capital Territory.
He expressed his profound gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, and Minister of the FCT, Mallam Muhammed Musa Bello, for their unflinching support towards the FCT Police Command.
He also appreciate the press and all those who volunteer useful information to the Command in its fight against crime within the FCT.
The CP added that the Command’s proactive crime-fighting measures has yielded the following achievements in recent weeks: 31 arrested suspects, one locally made pump action rifle, 11 locally made fabricated pistols, 31 ammunition, two cutlasses, 24 phones and Laptops, five recovered cars, half bag of Indian hemp, one plier, several bags of uniforms and accoutrements and counterfeit appointment letters.
