The Federal Capital Territory police command says it has arrested five suspects for car snatching/armed robbery along the Gwagwalada and Wuye axes.
Among the suspects is one Mohammed Musa, 30, said to be a member of a four-man car snatching syndicate, arrested by police detectives from Gwagwalada Division during a routine patrol on Friday 30th April, 2021.
According to a statement by the command’s public relations officer, ASP Yusuf Mariam, the suspect confessed that the syndicate operates by disguising as stranded passengers to lure their unsuspecting victims (motorists).
Exhibits recovered from him are one blue Toyota Corolla with registration number YAB 15 BK, one locally fabricated pistol and six rounds of live ammunition.
Similarly, police operatives from Wuye Division arrested four other suspects: Abdullahi Haruna, 25; Naziru Nasiru, 23; Sani Ibrahim, 20, and Umar Musa –all members of a four-man robbery gang terrorizing Wuye axis.
The suspects confessed that they are responsible for snatching phones, bags along the Stadium area.
A red Volkswagen Golf, four mobile phones, two knives and three reflective jackets were recovered from them.
Yusuf said the suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation.
The command reiterated the ban on the use of unauthorized covered number plates within the FCT, saying that violators will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
