The remains of the legendary high life musician, Fatai Olayiwola Olagunju, better known as Fatai Rolling Dollar, was laid to rest on Thursday.
Olagunju was buried at his building site in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The prayer session for the repose of his soul was held at his Millennium Estate home in Oko Oba, Agege, Lagos State.
Well wishers and friends had a final glimpse of the remains of the octogenarian musician before the body was moved to Ikorodu for interment.
The 84-year-old high life maestro died on Wednesday at Marritol Hospital, Surulere, Lagos State following a brief illness.
Pa Olagunju reportedly died of complications resulting from lung cancer.
Top musicians present at the Fidau prayer included former President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, Admiral Dele Abiodun; Segun Adewale; Dayo Kujore; and Champion Kunle Ojo.
Islamic scholars, music industry titans, fans and family members were also present.
Veteran musicians – Chief Ebenezer Obey, King Sunny Ade, Prince Adekunle and few others – were at the deceased’s Agege home on Wednesday to receive the corpse from the hospital alongside family members.
Speaking at the prayer session, which began at 1:30pm, the Oba of Agege said the occasion was a clarion call to unbelievers to be closer to their creator.
Thereafter, friends and colleagues paid glowing tributes to Pa Olagunju.
The crowd was touched by the emotional tribute paid by the likes of Chief Ebenezer Obey, the Olu of Agege and his family.
For close to 10 minutes at the grave side, the second wife of the late musician, Zainab Ogungbe-Olagunju, could not utter a word as she was merely shivering and crying profusely.
The last wife, Sherifat Olagunju, muttered: “There will no be other Fatai Rolling Dollar again.”
According to the deceased’s daughter, Titi Adeyemi Agu, the funeral rites will come up next week, while the final burial will take place 14 days after.
