The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has charged builders to facilitate regulations that will end incessant collapse buildings in the country and build to last.
Fashola said this at the inauguration ceremony of the 6th board members of the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria in Abuja.
The 15-member board is saddled with the statutorily responsibility to certify who will be builders in Nigeria with requisite skills and knowledge and to regulate and coordinate the practice of the profession in line with best practices.
Membership of the board cuts across the academia, civil service, state and the professional body.
Fashola noted that the name, Builder, is an important title and advised them to make optimum use of the title, adding that the inauguration has come at a time the nation wants to get rid of collapsed buildings resulting from the use of substandard materials among Builders in the country.
He noted that at a time like this, the nation needs their manpower and professional skills, especially as it embarks on infrastructural buildings across the country for economic sustainability and national development.
The Minister also stated that the nation needs them to enforce the revised National Building Code that will soon be presented to the public and urged certified Builders to familiarize themselves with the document and make it a way of life.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria, Builder (Prof.) Kabiru Bala, expressed the Board’s gratitude for choosing them as worthy ambassadors to serve the nation in this respect and promised that the board will discharge its duties in accordance to the provisions of the law.
The University Don thanked the Minister for inclusion and pledged the loyalty of the Council to the Federal Government and promised that IT would discharge its duties with quality management control.
