The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola; the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Prince Umar Manko: and other eminent personalities are all set to speak at the Crime Fighters’ Special Lecture for students in Lagos State.
The lecture is to mark Children ‘s Day celebration on May 27.
The special lecture for students, tagged Security Awareness Among Children, will take place at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Speaking on the upcoming event, the Executive Producer of the Nigeria’s premier and leading security programme on television, Crime Fighters, Aisha Tosan, said the objective of the programme is to promote security awareness among children and to address the growing trend of criminal acts across the world, where the young are radicalized and manipulated into committing acts of terror.
Tosan in her words: “The overriding goal is to educate our children on security and crime and prevent them from being brain washed or misled into criminal activities.”
Other speakers expected at the lecture include Kerry Brooks, Special Agent, United States of America Embassy in Nigeria; Prof. Omololu Soyombo, the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Lagos; Gloria Egbuji; the representative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission; and David Adegboye, a banker and motivational speaker.
The speakers are to address issues such as the general trend of crime in Nigeria, the influence of the social media, cyber crime, the psychology of crime, impacts of crime on victims and survival tips for young people.
Tosan said the event is an attempt to help combat the rising wave of crime in the country, particularly terrorism, kidnapping and other forms of violent crime.
