A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has faulted the decision of the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, to chose a Muslim, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, as his running mate for the 2019 governorship election.
El-Rufai, a Muslim himself, on Friday announced his choice of running mate for his reelection bid.
His deputy, Barnabas Bala, has opted to go to the National Assembly and has since emerged as the All Progressives Congress’s candidate for Kaduna South Senatorial District.
Reacting to the development in a WhatsApp message to The Eagle Online, Fani-Kayode said for a state with almost equal population of Christians and Muslims, it was wrong for El-Rufai to opt for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
He wrote: “It is wrong, divisive, dangerous, provocative and insulting for Nasir El Rufai to field a Muslim/Muslim ticket in the governorship election in a state like Kaduna in which 50% of the people are Christians and in which thousands of Christians were butchered over the last three years.”
Fani-Kayode and El-Rufai served in the Administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
While El-Rufai was Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Fani-Kayode was Minister of Aviation and Minister of Culture at different times.
