A Sergeant attached to Ikotun Police Division of the Lagos State Police Command has attempted killing himself in detention.
The Sergeant was arrested for extortion.
He was accused, alongside other policemen also in detention, of extorting money from some youths who went to the bank to make withdrawals.
Some residents of the area who live close to bank and have been observing the activities of some of the policemen, reported them to the Divisional Police Officer of Ikotun.
The DPO was said to have ordered their arrest.
Some under covered policemen were sent to the scene and the policemen were arrested in the act on December 28, 2016.
One of the arrested policemen, who was in detention, took substances suspected to be poison on Tuesday in an attempt to kill himself, but was rescued and later rushed to a private hospital where he was he was placed under intensive care.
