The immediate past Registrar of the University of Ilorin, Dada Obafemi, has blamed stakeholders, particularly government and parents, for the fall in standard of education in the country.
Obafemi told newsmen on Sunday in Ilorin that many parents now encouraged their children to circumvent the system in their quest to secure admission at all cost.
The former Registrar advocated for 18 years as minimum age for admission seekers into universities, as was the practice in the past, in order to revive the quality of education in the country.
Obafemi urged all stakeholders to be pragmatic and adhere strictly to the rules in order to urgently revive the system.
Speaking on funding of tertiary education, he appealed to Tertiary Education Fund to make funds for developmental purposes in universities accessible to vice chancellors.
He also appealed to principal officers of tertiary institutions to always use the money for the purpose they were meant for.
The former Registrar also called for adequate funding of education to ensure rapid development of the nation.
