A former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power, Dr. Godknows Igali, has been identified as the person behind the 47 Sports Utility Vehicles and 100 motorcycles announced recovered by the Federal Government.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had on Thursday announced the recovery of the vehicles.
Mohammed had however put the number of recovered vehicles at 40.
Multiple sources on Friday, however, said 47 vehicles and not fewer than 100 motorcycles were recovered from Igali.
The vehicles were said to have been bought for about N1.5 billion for the campaign of former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, for the 2015 presidential election.
The money, according to sources in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, was sourced in part from the N27 billion insurance premium of deceased workers of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria.
One of the companies that supplied the vehicles made up of SUVs, Toyota Coaster buses, Toyota Hilux trucks and 16-seater buses, Dilly Motors, confirmed to the EFCC that part of the money was paid by Baseworth Insurance Brokers Limited, one of the companies that handled the N27 billion insurance premium of the PHCN worked.
Dilly Motors was said to have received N300 million from the insurance company in one instance.
Igali, who was said to have hidden the vehicles in well guarded premises in highbrow areas of Abuja, will be charged to court soon, it was learnt.
