Former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio ‘was robbed at gunpoint’ alongside his wife Roberta at the family villa in Turin.
Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Wednesday that the 33-year-old’s property in the Vinovo district of Turin was targeted by “armed robbers” late on Tuesday night.
It is detailed that Marchisio and his wife were threatened “with two pistols and a screwdriver” and he was forced to hand over money and other expensive possessions to the four robbers.
The monetary value of the cash and other items is yet to be established but is believed to be sizeable.
The four robbers, who were said to be armed, left and Marchisio notified local police instantly about the break-in.
Local authorities are now trying to establish further details about the crime through video surveillance footage from the highly secure complex where he lives.
Gazzetta added that the complex needs a combination code to gain access and so it is considered a sophisticated crime given whoever broke in had the numerical digits to get close to the property.
After a short time with Zenit St Petersburg, Marchisio returned to Turin recently to announce he was retiring from professional football.
