Presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party and first Governor of Edo State, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and thousands of his supporters on Tuesday decamped to the Action Congress of Nigeria.
The former governor, who declared his support for the Action Congress of Nigeria during the re-election campaign of Governor Adams Oshiomhole as governor for a second term at Oredo Local Government Area, said he decided to join the party because it will become the political party in the vanguard of transformation in the country.
According to him, this country must change and the process must begin with the election of Oshiomhole, whom he described as the president of the people back to Government House on July 14 this year.
Odigie-Oyegun said: “My body has been somewhere else all this while, but my spirit has always been with Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. Every blind man can see the work Oshiomhole is doing and when my party decided to take a jankara candidate for governor, there is no way I can mount the rostrum and say the governor has not done well. That is why I am now in the Action Congress of Nigeria, both in spirit and body.”
While asking the mammoth crowd to imagine what the state would be like in another three years if they vote Oshiomhole in as governor, he said: “He has baked a cake and we have eaten it and it is sweet, while others are hoping to learn how to bake. A bird in the hand is worth a thousand in the bush, but Oshiomhole is 10 birds in the hand.”
Oshiomhole said the decision of Odigie-Oyegun to join the Action Congress of Nigeria will ensure that the resources of the state are creatively deployed to impact positively on the lives of the people.
“Together, we will ensure public resources are deployed for public welfare and we will continue to be in the business of empowering the people so that democracy will be people driven,” he added.
