London-based Nigerian long jumper, Ezekiel Olufikayo Ewulo, has set his sights at gold in today’s final in the 1long jump at the ongoing games here in Brazzaville despite running against morel experienced athletes.
Ewulo said he was a little frustrated that there was no qualification contest before today’s final because of few entries for the event but expressed confidence about his ability to jump to gold.
“It’s been quite interesting here at the games although I was a little bit frustrated that we did not have the qualification contest for the final yesterday (Tuesday) after warming up. We were told that we would go straight into the final on Thursday because there were few entries for the event. I’m physically and mentally fit for the competition and I know I’m capable of winning the gold medal if I’m able to perform to the best if my ability,” he said.
“My main opposition is going to be one of the Senegalese jumpers that is very experienced; he’s quite an old athlete and has been around for a while; and probably, Samson from Nigeria who is also experienced. So we have two of as from Nigeria and I think it’s going to be between us and the Senegalese,” Ewulo said.
“I’m improving by the day and I believe Nigeria will win the gold in long jump through me or Samson,” the long jumper that hails from Ogun State predicted.
