Romelu Lukaku’s Belgium will face Italy in the Euro 2020 quarter-final after beating reigning champions Portugal 1-0, but Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard limped off injured.
The game in Seville was decided by a Thorgan Hazard scorcher from distance, although goalkeeper Rui Patricio – on the verge of a move to Roma – could perhaps have done better after taking a step the wrong way.
Portugal threatened an equaliser late on, above all with Raphael Guerreiro thumping the base of the upright.
Belgium survived for the 1-0 result and will face Italy in the Euro 2020 quarter-final to be played in Munich on July 2.
However, coach Roberto Martinez has some concerns because both De Bruyne and Eden Hazard limped off.
De Bruyne was on the end of two rough tackles and seemed to have an ankle issue.
Hazard was running when he suddenly pulled up clutching his hamstring, so the Real Madrid man is a huge doubt to feature against Italy.
There are several Serie A players in the Belgium squad, above all Inter striker Lukaku and Napoli legend Dries Mertens.
