It was a glorious celebration on September 7, 2024 when the Empire Trust Microfinance Bank and CityGate Microfinance Bank celebrated the grand opening of their Empire Building on Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos State.
The state-of-the-art eight floors story building is a testament to innovative architecture and modern financial solutions.
It now stands as a landmark in the city, reflecting the growth and forward-thinking nature of the two companies.
The event was a significant milestone in their expansion, with notable figures in attendance and speeches highlighting the aspirations of the banks for the future.
The ceremony commenced at 12pm with two prayer sessions, putting God first in everything.
The ribbon-cutting, symbolising the official launch of the headquarters, was performed by the owners of both banks: Seun Durojaye of Empire Trust Microfinance Bank and Olugbenga Dairo of CityGate Microfinance Bank, with their wives by their sides.
Professor Olarenwaju Pius led the charge.
This was followed by a tour of the facility, led by the architect behind the building’s design.
Starting at the car park and walking their way up through the reception area, the tour highlighted the structure’s energy efficiency and innovative design features.
The tour concluded on the fifth floor, where the main event took place, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding area and showcasing the building’s grandeur.
Professor Pius in his speech after the tour, praised the visionary leadership of the Dairo and Durojaye families and the growth of their respective businesses.
He lauded their efforts in promoting small and medium-sized enterprises through their financial services and the significant role they are playing in uplifting Nigeria’s youth through various initiatives.
“The commitment of these men to the future of our youth is commendable,” he remarked.
Pius also expressed his pleasure at being part of such a historic moment, bringing greetings from the Chartered Bankers of Nigeria and emphasising the importance of financial discipline and innovation.

He emphasised the innovative design of the headquarters, particularly its energy-efficient systems.
“This building is 100 percent energy-dependent,” Durojaye announced, describing how the structure was designed to function with minimal environmental impact.
He also highlighted the global reach of his companies, mentioning City Gates Incorporation in Texas, United States of America and Empire Investments Company in the United Kingdom.
These international branches, he explained, are part of a broader effort to establish a global footprint for the brand.
Durojaye also expressed his pride in the safety protocols maintained during the building’s construction, ensuring that no life was lost throughout the process.
He credited the project’s success to meticulous planning and adherence to international safety standards as well as the many individuals involved in the construction of the building.
Dairo, Co-Founder of CityGate Microfinance Bank, centred his speech around the spiritual dimension of the company’s work.
He appealed to the religious leaders present to continue praying for the youth of Nigeria, who are navigating a challenging future.
“There is a spiritual dimension to the challenges our country is facing, and we need prayers to guide our youth,” Dairo said.
He also touched on the legacy he hopes the building will leave behind.
“We want this building to outlive us,” he declared, adding: “To be a symbol of the Dairo and Durojaye families for generations.”
His speech was a heartfelt reflection on the enduring impact he and his partners hope to create, not just through financial services but also through the lives they touch.
