The much talked about tribute and prayer session for veteran Nollywood actor, Justus Esiri, has just kicked off at the Prince Hotel in Anthony Village, Lagos State.
And to celebrate the great icon, the few actors, fans who might not make it down to the oil city of Abraka, Delta State have started trouping in to honour the late actor.
Amongs them are Yomi Fash Lanso, Bayo Bankole (Boy Alinco), Lillian Amah Aluko, Lucinda Abazie, Gbenga Adeyinka Sam Uche Anyamele and Tonie Payne, ex-wife of 9ice, a notable Nigeria artiste.
Payne, one of the first to drive, recited a poem to serenade the event before one of Esiri’s epic films, Wasted Years, produced by Teco Benson, was shown to the delight of his fans, actors and loved ones at the gathering.
The idea of the event, according to the publisher of Best Of Nollywood, Seun Oloketuyi, is to celebrate Esiri’s life and times and to get people prepared for the final burial, which takes place on April 12 in Abraka, Delta State.
Bankole, better known as Boy Alinco, commended Esiri’s works right from his Village Headmaster days.
He said: “Pa Esiri has left a legacy we all actors must emulate.
“He came, he conquered and won.
“His life is worth celebrating.”
Fansh Lanso also commended Esiri’s great works while other actors, comedians and fans gave good remarks about the late veteran actor.
