Arsenal are back up to fifth after an impressive performance against lowly Aston Villa.
The Gunners beat Man City 2-0 last time out in the league and needed to back that superb win up in Sunday’s early kick-off.
And Arsene Wenger’s men were in sumptuous form once again as they swept Villa aside in a 5-0 thrashing at the Emirates.
Olivier Giroud got the ball rolling after just eight minutes, neatly chipping over Brad Guzan following a fast break.
Mesut Ozil made it two just before the hour mark with another well taken goal and just minutes later Theo Walcott put Arsenal three up.
With 15 minutes remaining, Chuba Akpom was brought down by Guzan and Santi Cazorla struck home the resulting penalty but the Villa keeper really should have done better.
Hector Bellerin capped off the scoring in injury time with a perfectly placed side-foot finish.
With no Alexis Sanchez, the Gunners called upon Ozil and Walcott, both coming back from their own long-term injuries, to supply the pace and goals.
Both were in top form and caused the away side all sorts of problems throughout.
It was the perfect result for Arsenal who face Tottenham in the north-London derby next week while Villa have now gone six games without a goal – a new club record.
Wenger’s men leapfrog Spurs into the top five, Villa are just three points off the drop zone.
