The Fenerbahce striker, 27, was linked with a move to Tottenham during the winter transfer window, with his agent revealing at the time that the North London outfit were one of a number of teams interested in his client’s signature.
“Tottenham have really only one striker right now so it is not a surprise that they are interested,” said agent Erdem Konyar, per the Standard. “I personally have not entered talks with Tottenham yet. However, if Fenerbahce give permission we can enter negotiations.
“There are also reports AC Milan and Fiorentina are interested in Emenike but we have not met with them either. I do not think Fenerbahce have received an official offer.”
A transfer failed to materialise in the end but Emenike’s circumstances have since taken a turn for the worse, after the Nigerian international forced his own substitution during last month’s Turkish Super Lig clash with Besiktas amid alleged abuse from his own supporters.
Dropped from the line-up for the subsequent trip to Rizespor, a summer exit now looks to be on the cards and milliyet.com.tr report that the Montreal Impact are one club looking to take advantage of his recent plight.
The MLS side are desperate to add some firepower to their squad after failing to replace the now-retired Marco Di Vaio in the offseason and have also seen rookie sensation Cameron Porter ruled out for the rest of 2015 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Known for his amazing blend of speed and strength, Emenike would be available for a cut-price fee of €6 million, according to the Turkish national news site, and is said to be looking for a wage package of around €2 million-per-annum – not far off what Di Vaio was earning in guaranteed compensation during his final season with Montreal.
The 27-times capped forward has struggled in front of goal this term, netting just four times in 28 total appearances, but his career scoring record has otherwise been more than impressive.
With 70 goals in 161 games across European spells at fellow Turkish outfit Karabukspor, Russian side Spartak Moscow and Fenerbahce, Emenike has the palmarès to suggest he’d prove a huge hit across the Atlantic and a potential Montreal move could even see him competing at the Club World Cup next December.
The Impact became the first Canadian and just the second MLS team to make the CONCACAF Champions League final last week and will seal a spot at the FIFA-organised tournament if they can upset Mexican giants Club America over their two-legged series later this month.
