Eleven persons were on Sunday feared dead when the vehicles they were travelling in had a head on collision on the Ore-Benin Expressroad.
One of the vehicles, a Golf car, was conveying passengers from Ore to Ondo when it collided with another private car conveying a family of four to Ore.
The accident, which occurred about 4.30pm, resulted in a traffic gridlock on the narrow but busy road.
The vehicles ran into the bush on collision.
It took the intervention of other motorists and sympathizers to get the victims to the hospital.
A commercial bus driver said: “I was coming from Ondo to Ore when I got into the traffic caused by the accident.
“The passengers, including the drivers of the two vehicles, were seriously wounded.
“We fear that they all died because we saw dead bodies but it is only the doctor that can confirm if they all died but it was a serious and terrible accident.”
Other motorists decried the rate of accident on the road and appealed to the government to expand the road from Ondo State to Edo State.
Ade Obambe, a traveller, said: “This route, especially from Ondo to Ore, is a death trap.
“The road is too narrow and almost every week, you witness a head on collision due to the narrow road.
“The government should avoid wasting lives and fix this road.
“They should expand the road for safety sake.”
