With less than two weeks to the general elections, the National Orientation Agency on Wednesday said that the agency has recorded 95 per cent success of voters sensitization and enlightenment campaign programme in the state.
The Niger State Director of the NOA, Alhaji Mohammed Ali, made this disclosure in an interview with selected journalists in Minna.
Ali said 274 wards in the 25 local government areas of the state have been covered by officers of the Agency.
According to him: “Officers of the agency for the last six months have been going round various communities sensitizing and educating the masses on the need to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards as it is the only right to exercise their franchise.
“And during our sensitization campaign, we encouraged eligible voters to collect their PVCs and advised those with problems to meet with Independent National Electoral Commission officials for proper clarification.
“We carried out advocacy visit to traditional rulers, spoke with them extensively on the need to encourage their subjects to conduct themselves according to the rules of the game.
“Our officers at the local government level had to step-down the sensitization because in the report, we realized that in the last two months, 274 wards have been covered three times.
“Our effort has continued and we want to assure you that we will not stop until the end of this week before the election proper to compliment the efforts of INEC.”
Ali further disclosed that 115 officers’ names have been forwarded to INEC headquarters through the agency headquarters for accreditation.
They would supervise other officers during the elections.
Ali also said 720 trained brigade volunteers are ready for deployment by the Nigeria Police Force to supervise the elections as part of efforts to compliment other security agencies in the state.
He added: “We have also met with the state government, particularly the political officials, to ensure that we work together. We also appealed to them to work towards a successful credible, free, fair and acceptable elections.
“We also invited stakeholders like cultural groups, youth organization for interface demonstration for people to vote and remain peaceful during and after elections.”
