The Ekiti State Government has granted autonomy to five communities in the state.
This followed the completion of various judicial processes and subsequent approval of their requests by the relevant authorities, including the state House of Assembly and the state executive council.
The communities are: Ejiyan, Ipoti Ekiti, Ijero Local Government Area; Orun, Igbemo Ekiti, Irepo/Ifelodun Local Government Area; Omuo Oke; Omuo Ekiti, Ekiti-East Local Government Area; Kota, Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti East Local Government Area; and Ijaro, Iludun-Ekiti, Ilejemeje Local Government Area.
By the recognition, the five communities would now enjoy the status of autonomous communities, with recognised leadership structure, in line with the laws of the state.
A statement by Olayinka Oyebode, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Kayode Fayemi, urged the citizens of the affected communities and the state in general to continue to take the path of peace.
