Some Ekiti State Cultural Ambassadors on Monday pledged to promote the state’s rich cultural heritage through an aggressive publicity and awareness drive.
They told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that by so doing, Ekiti State would take its rightful place in the country’s tourism arena.
NAN recalls that 14 indigenes of the state were decorated by Governor Kayode Fayemi as Cultural Ambassadors of Ekiti State on October 19 at Ikogosi.
The ceremony was held during the commissioning of the Phase I of the Ikogosi Warm Springs Redevelopment programme.
Those that were conferred with the ambassadorship title included: Funmi Ladipo-Ajila, Moji Olaiya, Yinka Ayefele, Peter Fatomilola, Jimoh Aliu, Prof. Ojo Bakare, Elemure Ogunyemi, Peju Ogunmola, and Akin Onipede.
Others were: Michael Omoshinlade, Odunlade Adekola, Foluke Daramola, Akinade Ibuoye and Yetunde Ibrahim.
It was against the backdrop of the appointments that Ladipo-Ajila told NAN that the state was blessed with enormous tourism potential that could attract tourists and visitors from both far and near.
Ladipo-Ajila, who is also the President of Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria, added that she was ready to promote the state’s culture through fashion.
“I will promote the state’s rich cultural heritage at home and abroad and will always do my state proud,” she said.
Also, Olaiya said that she would promote the state’s culture through her prowess in film making by documenting its sites of attraction on celluloid.
Olaiya, who is also a thespian in Nollywood, told NAN that it was time she brought her dexterity in the industry to bear on Ekiti State’s quest to boost its tourism potential.
She added that her upcoming video would package the state’s major tourism sites.
“The idea is to promote the state’s rich tourist sites through aggressive publicity and make it the number one tourism destination in Africa,” Olaiya said.
Another ambassador, Akinade Ibuoye, told NAN that he was ready to continue to promote the virtues of the state through music.
Ibuoye, who is also a musician and fondly referred to as “GAISE”, told NAN that Fayemi had done the state proud through the conferment of the ambassadorships on deserving citizens.
He stressed that the governor had brought the state to the limelight through viable development projects that would serve as an enduring legacy and a testament to his drive to develop the state.
