The Governor Kayode Fayemi-led government of Ekiti State has approved the appointment of Prince Adekunle Adeagbo from Ile-Iyaba Ruling House of Otun-Ekiti as the new Oore of Mobaland, succeeding Oba James Adeyemi Popoola, who joined his ancestors on October 21, 2019.
The announcement was contained in a press statement in Ado-Ekiti on Friday by the state Commissioner of Information and Values Orientation, Hon. Muyiwa Olumilua, at the end of the State Executive Council meeting.
The statement said: “The Council also approved the appointment of Prince Adekunle Adeagbo of the Adifagbade Ruling House, Ile-Iyaba, of Otun-Ekiti as the new Oore of Otun-Ekiti, following his nomination by the Kingmakers.”
Born 52 years ago in Ibadan, Oyo State to the family of Prince Samuel Adebowale and Lady Janet Adeagbo, the Oba-elect is a blue Economist, well travelled and globally exposed.
Adeagbo is happily married to Catherine. A. Adeagbo and blessed with three sons.
He attended All Saints Primary School, Jericho, Onireke, Ibadan, Oyo State between 1975-1980.
He is a product of International School, the prestigious Imperial University of Ibadan, Oyo State for his Ordinary and advanced level certificate between 1980 and1987; Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, where he obtained B.sc in Economics between 1987-1991; did his NYSC at Rigom Oil Services/Shell Petroleum Development Company, West Ogunu, Warri, Delta State after graduating in 1992.
Though the he is not a politician, his father was a diehard follower of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and a former member of the Unity Party of Nigeria and Federal House of Representatives between 1979 and 1983.
Adeagbo is an International Dredging practitioner on sharp sand, aggregates, granite, gold, tourmaline and precious minerals.
An Executive at Director Mercury Dredging and Construction Limited in Lagos, he also holds the same portfolios at Mercury Dredging and Construction Inc, Canada.
Adeagbo had last week after his selection by the kingmakers thanked the Ekiti State Government and Moba Local Government for not politicising the vacant stool of Oore.
He also thanked all the Otun kingmakers for the transparent process in discharging their constitutional obligation in choosing the new Oore of Mobaland.
He appreciate all Otun indigenes both home and abroad for their prayers and support for the town since the demise of the late king, Oba James Popoola.
He has also appreciated all his fellow contenders from the Ile Eye Aba ruling house in persons of Prince Adewumi Heritage Omowonuola, Prince Adegboyega Adebiyi, Prince Adeyinka Adeagbo, Prince Anthony Tunde Abolarin and Prince Samson Popoola.
Adeagbo, who emerged as the Oore of Otun, has called on other contenders who he said were equally qualified for the throne as revered Princes and patriots of Otun-Ekiti with whom he is ready to work as a team to move the town forward, adding that their collective support is always needed for the betterment and development of Otun Ekiti, which he hopes to be unprecedented.
