The Police Command in Ekiti State said on Tuesday that it recorded 74 cases of murder and rape in 2013, describing the number as worrisome.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sotonye Wakama, disclosed this in Ado Ekiti during the review of the activities of the command in 2013.
Wakama said: “In 2013, the command recorded 74 cases of murder and rape and looking at the number, it is on the high side and thereby worrisome.
“The statistical analysis of the 2013 review shows that the command recorded 44 and 30 cases of murder and rape respectively.”
He said that more than 432 criminals were arrested and prosecuted, while property worth N579,464 were recovered and handed over to the owners.
Wakama, however, reiterated the readiness of the command to reduce the crime rate, warning criminally minded persons to run away from the state.
He said the command would do everything this year to make the state uncomfortable for criminals this year.
