Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate in the upcoming governorship election in Ekiti State, Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, has pledged to work with a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain and former Deputy Speaker in the state, Rt. Hon. Femi Bamisinle, ahead of the June 21 election.
Bamidele disclosed this when he paid a visit to Bamisinle at his hometown of Omuo Ekiti on Wednesday, along with a large crowd of his supporters in the area.
The LP’s flag bearer said since Ekiti State was in urgent need of intervention, the likes of Bamisinle, who is the current PDP Deputy Chairman in the state, must be consulted.
He said regardless of their political associations, what mattered was a rescue mission to salvage Ekiti State from the claws of those he described as anti-democratic forces.
According to him: “In politics, people get lost and they remain there but to the glory of God, Rt. Hon. Bamisinle has shown that he’s a man who can walk his talk.
“To say something and meet it like that is the beauty of any human being.
“But for others, saying one thing and doing another is what has taken Ekiti to the state it is today.
“We have come to meet you because if nothing is done urgently, Ekiti will be a failed state.
“The minimum agenda between you and I is to work together and make Ekiti great.
“All the problems that happened in ACN and PDP occurred possibly so that there would be a re-alignment of interests and groups across Ekiti.
“I pledge to be very sincere with you and your political groups in all my political dealings now and in future sir.
“Very serious people like you are needed in any government that wants to achieve anything serious.
“That’s why we need to work with people like you.
“Regardless of our political affiliation, as sons of Ekiti, we need to work together.”
Meanwhile, Bamisinle has reiterated his position to work with Bamidele as the date of next month’s election gets closer.
He stated this in his remark and added that his decision to work with him stemmed from Bamidele’s clean records in previous political offices.
He stated: “He is the best man that can rule Ekiti State without any shadow of doubt.
“Bamidele has a very clear conviction.
“He has very good political credentials.
“This is a man who has worked as a Special Adviser to a governor before.
“He has also served as a commissioner in Lagos back-to-back before.
“He’s presently serving as a member of House of Representatives.
“So he has a clear-cut conviction to rule Ekiti State and I will work with him.”
Wednesday’s meeting between the two politicians may have finally put to rest the initial speculation that Bamisinle has dumped the PDP’s candidate in the race, Ayodele Fayose.
Earlier, the Olomuo of Omuo-Oke Ekiti, Oba Valentine Otitoju, had told Bamidele and his entourage in his palace to eschew political violence and embrace peace during their campaign rallies.
