Eight northern states map out strategy against rustling – Gov. Masari

Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State on Monday said eight Northern governors had agreed to end activities of rustlers in the region.

Masari said this in Katsina while inaugurating a 20-man committee set up to resolve farmers-herdsmen clashes in the state.

He said the governors had agreed to sponsor a joint security operation to flush out the criminals from some forests in the area.

He said: “We have met and contributed N600 million for logistics and financing of security operations.

“We have given the security agents the mandate to deal ruthlessly with those behind the illegal act and unnecessary killings of rural folks.

“As responsible governments, we cannot fold our arms and allow criminals to be stealing cows and killing innocent citizens.”

Masari called on traditional and religious leaders to reconcile farmers and herdsmen and the committee to educate the two waring groups on the need to live peacefully.

Responding, the Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Nuhu Abdulkadir, said the committee would discharge its duties without fear or favour.

Abdulkadir, the District Head of Rimi in Katsina State, said the committee would resolve the lingering disputes between the groups.

He commended the government for appointing them to serve the state.
