The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria has urged Nigerians to emulate the leadership qualities and virtues exemplified by the noble Prophet Muhammad during his life time.
The call was contained in a Maulud Nabiyy message issued by the MMPN Chairman, Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun, in Ibadan, Oyo State on Friday.
Balogun urged Muslims and non Muslims to always abide by the tenets of their holy books.
He said: “Prophet Muhammad is not a god; neither is he a ‘mere’ man. He is a man with the norm and all the attributes of the human state.
“Prophet Muhammad’s greatness lies in his doggedness; his position as the seal of all prophets and the fact that he was unlettered and a blank piece of paper before the Divine Pen.
“Prophet Muhammad was a religious, political and military leader who founded the religion of Islam. Muslims view him not as the creator of a new religion, but as the restorer of the original, uncorrupted monotheistic faith of Adam and Abraham.
“In Muslim tradition, Muhammad is viewed as the last and the greatest in a series of prophets – as the man closest to perfection, the possessor of all virtues.”
The MMPN chairman, therefore, urged Muslims to be tolerant and peaceful and to desist from acts that could undermine the security of the nation by following the traditions and teachings of the Holy Prophet of Islam which encourages co-existence with non Muslims.
On the forthcoming general elections, the organisation urged Nigerians to vote for credible leaders and called for prayers for peaceful conduct of the elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Eid-el-Maulud is the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, born on the 12th of Rabiul Awwal, 570 A.D in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, which coincides with January 3, 2015.
