Edafe Egbedi has been ruled out of Tuesday’s AYC semi-final against Egypt due to a thigh injury.
Flying Eagles physiotherapist, Emeka Anozie, confirmed the winger’s absence but said he hopes the player will be fit within the week.
“Egbedi is out of the game against Egypt,” Anozie said.
The player did not train with the rest of the squad at the Ain Temouchent Stadium on Monday evening.
Egbedi suffered the injury during the team’s final Group B match against DR Congo on Saturday.
However, cheering news for the defending champions is that Umar Aminu, who fired a brace against DRC at the weekend, has been passed fit for Tuesday’s showdown.
Aminu trained with the squad and he is likely to start along with Olanrewaju Kayode as the Flying Eagles go for the broke against Egypt.
The Flying Eagles trained on penalty kicks as the competition has now entered the knockout stage, which could well be determined by spot kicks.
Among the expected penalty takers for Nigeria would be skipper Abduljaleel Ajagun, Bright Ejike, Uche Agbo, Alhaji Gero and Ovbokha Agboyi.
Meanwhile, the kick-off for both semi-finals will now be 5pm as against the original time of 5.30pm.
The matches are being played at the same time in Oran and Ain Temouchent because Algeria host Benin in a 2014 World Cup qualifier also on Tuesday night.
Kick-off for the World Cup qualifier has been put at 8.15pm in Blida, near Algiers.
