Abdulazeez Bello, a former Kogi Central Senatorial District candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, will be arraigned soon by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged impersonation and forgery, reliable sources within the anti-graft body had said.
Operatives of the State Security Services arrested Abdulazeez, 49, on January 27, 2013 at the Sheraton Hotels & Towers, Lagos for attempting to defraud Mercy Orji, wife of the Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, with trump up charges by impersonating the Director of Operations of the EFCC, Olaolu Adegbite.
Abdulazeez claimed he was the EFCC Director of Operations with vital documents nailing Mrs. Orji in fraudulent transactions in the state.
The SSS operatives, who had gotten a report from Mrs. Orji of the fraudulent transaction, had stationed operatives in the hotel and as soon as Abdulazeez stepped in, he was arrested with a fake identity card bearing the name of Adegbite.
On his arrest, Abdulazeez confessed that his partners in crime were Nelson Ndukwe and Chuks Offor, both aides of Mrs. Orji, who had conspired with him to defraud the Abia State First lady.
