The Economic and Financial Crimes commission has carried out an anti-corruption sensitisation rally in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to help fight corruption in the country.
The anti- corruption walk which took place on Monday at the Eagle Square, Abuja was organised by the EFCC, alongside other partnering anti-corruption agencies in the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the World Anti-Corruption day holds on December 9, every year to fight corruption.
The sensitisation road walk titled: “Say No to Corruption, Every No Counts,” was organised by the FCT EFCC to mark the World anti-corruption day.
Speaking at the event, the Acting Chairman of the commission, Ibrahim Magu, said the rally was imperative because Nigerians had long forgotten the basic principles of being accountable to themselves and the society at large.
Magu said: “There is corruption everywhere and the need to curb this menace has called for concern. Corruption is evil and must be terminated in Nigeria and should as well be tackled collectively.
“The aim of organising this event is to ensure corruption is erased totally in our country. This fight is for everybody so we all must fight for it to be eradicated.”
Magu said the rally against corruption would be a yearly event to ensure that the people don’t forget the fight against the menace.
He said: “We need everyone’s support because we do not have the monopoly of knowledge to do what we are doing alone.
“Let’s check ourselves and avoid situations that will lead to mismanagement and lack of accountability on corruption.”
The acting chairman said everyone must join in the fight against corruption because it was of national interest which superseded every other thing.
He added: “The fight against corruption has come to stay in Nigeria.”
