The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday said that it arrested three
suspected fraudsters, including a couple, over an alleged N16.9 million fraud.

The commission alleged that the suspects defrauded Austin Ilenre-Emuan, the Managing Director of the Gothic-Len Consortium Limited, through a non-existent contract.
“The trio and others at large are suspected leaders of a syndicate from Rivers State, which engages in fraudulent acts under false pretences and impersonation,” the EFCC claimed.
The commission said that the arrest followed a petition from Ilenre-Emuan, who claimed that the suspects and others at large conspired and defrauded him of the sum in 2011.
“They collected the said amount under the pretext of awarding his company a contract for construction of a cottage hospital in Rivers,” the EFCC said.
It claimed that a traditional ruler connived to carry out the fraud.
The EFCC said that it was making efforts to arrest other members of the syndicate, adding that investigation was ongoing on the case.
