The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has cleared the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Hon Danladi Yakubu Umar, of the allegation of receiving N10 million bribe.
One AbdulRashid Owolabi had in a petition to the EFCC accused Umar of receiving N10 million bribe.
However, in a letter to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, the EFCC said it had found Umar not guilty.
The letter, titled: “Re: Investigation Report RE: N10 million Bribery Allegation against the Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal, Abuja,” was with reference NO: EFCC/P/NHRU/688/V.30/99 and dated April 20, 2016.
The letter, which was signed by Emmanuel Adegboyega Aremo, Secretary to the EFCC, reads: “Kindly recall our correspondence of 5th March, 2015, (reference EFCC/EC/SGF/03/56) with the above subject, please.
‘‘We would like to reiterate the Commission’s position in regard to this matter as earlier communicated to you and stated that the allegations leveled against Justice Umar were mere suspicious and consequently insufficient to successfully prosecute the offence.”
Wednesday’s clearance letter was a second one by the EFCC on the same issue.
The first one, dated March 5, 2015, was issued during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
It was routed through the office of the then Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Pius Anyim.
