The Nigeria Labour Congress, Edo State Council, said in Benin City that it had shelved its industrial action scheduled for Monday.
The NLC said in a communiqué that the decision to shelve the strike was reached at its enlarged State Executive Council meeting held on Monday afternoon.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the planned strike was to protest the non-implementation of salary relativity, non-payment of arrears of 10.5 per cent Teachers Salary Allowance and non-release of outstanding promotions.
Workers in the state employ had in December 2013 embarked on a strike, which was suspended after three days following the intervention of the Oba of Benin, Erediauwa 1.
The congress said the government had made an offer on its request for 53.37 per cent salary relativity.
“Collective bargaining is ongoing and at the end, the outcome will be beneficial to all workers,” the NLC said.
The NLC also called on the state government to implement without further delay payment of weigh-in allowance for its media workers.
It expressed support for the rejection of assessment test by teachers in the state as proposed by the state government.
