The Edo state Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday in Benin City donated food items to victims of HIV/AIDs in Nigeria.
Oshiomhole said it was unfortunate that there is still a lot of stigmatization against people Living With HIV/AIDS in the society.
The governor, who was represented by the Chairman of the State Agency for the Control of AIDs and Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, said: “We take these group of persons seriously but it’s so unfortunate there is still a lot of stigmatization, ill-will and ignorance about them.
“We are confident and hopeful that with the advancement and investment in medication on a daily basis especially in area of research, there is cure.
“The mode of being a victim is not necessarily being careless.
“That is why we must continue to educate the society and support this group to change the attitude of the people about it.
“Government brought money to buy the food items for your Christmas because there must be no discrimination against these persons in any manner.”
While responding, the Coordinator-General of the group in Edo State, Francis Osayande, said: “I want to appreciate the state government over this food supplements.
“Before now, we use to get it and we hope the ones for next year has been approved by government.”
The food items donated are bags of rice, bags of beans, bags of garri, cartons of noodles, drums of groundnut and vegetable oil.
