The Edo House of Assembly on Monday summoned the management of Rongtai Aluminum company to appear before it on March 20.
The summons followed the refusal of the company’s management to honour an earlier invitation by an ad-hoc committee, to proffer solutions to issues generated in a petition against it by a staff of the company.
The summons was also sequel to the consideration of a preliminary report by the committee of the whole House on the ill treatment of a staff of Rongtai Aluminum company, as contained in a petition titled: “A Case of serious ill treatment, acts of threat to life, abandonment, neglect and oppression of one Ebebe Ukala by Rongtai Aluminum Nigeria Ltd’’.
The motion to dissolve the house into a committee of the whole was moved by Foly Ogedengbe, member representing and seconded by Henry Okhurabo, member representing.
Ogedengbe, chairman of the ad-hoc committee constituted to investigate the petition, noted that the management of the company had no respect for human life.
Ogedengbe said that the company’s management refused to honour an invitation by the committee, adding that the company does not feel that it owed Edo people any corporate social responsibility.
The chairman said that the committee also discovered that the management of the aluminum company had no respect for constituted authority, adding that the company acts as law in itself in its operations.
As a committee of the whole, the house, therefore, resolved that the management of Rongtai Aluminum company, led by Chen Shijing, be invited to appear before members of the house at 10:00 a.m. on March 20, 2019.
