The Arole Oduduwa and Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has congratulated Christians across the world, especially those of Oduduwa origin, as the world celebrates this year’s Easter, which commemorates the sacrifices, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In a statement signed by his his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Comrade Moses Olafare, on Sunday, Ooni Ogunwusi described this year’s edition of the annual celebration as specially unique, particularly due to the lockdown order enacted in most places across the world to win the ongoing war against the pandemic Coronavirus disease.
He said: “This is the first time that Easter is being celebrated without having the usual gathering, this is the first Easter that we are celebrating without even going to the Church. In all of this, I am sure God Almighty is aware of the challenges before us in the world and he is in full control.
“Despite the pandemic which is a war against the world, we must be grateful because we are alive and among those who will witness the better days which is very close.”
On the country’s war against the novel COVID-19, the frontline monarch advised Nigerians to abide by rules and regulations put in place by the government, especially the social distancing and sit-at-home orders.
“In this challenging time, we have a huge responsibility of showing understanding to our leaders by which we would hasten the fight against coronavirus. Nobody is trying to punish us, we also must know that our neighbours’ well being is as important as ours,” he added.
