Nigerian League champions, Kano Pillars, were held by the Home Eagles to a two all draw at the main bowl of the Abuja National Stadium in a build up game ahead of the African Nations Championship in South Africa next month.
The Eagles took the lead through towering Egwuekwe off a header, before lively Bello Kofarmata drew Pillars level from the penalty spot soon after.
Skipper Mannir Ubale increased the tally for Pillars before midfielder Rabiu Ali restored parity for the national team from close range before the interval.
There were no goals in the second half, but both teams came close to adding to the tally.
Azubuike Egwuekwe, Ugonna Uzochukwu and goalkeeper and skipper Chigozie Agbim were the standout performers for the Eagles.
Striker Gambo Mohammed and Yinka Adedeji were left out of the fixture, as they are both nursing hamstring injuries.
Coach Stephen Keshi is expected to announce his final 23-man squad for next month’s CHAN on Tuesday.
