Operatives of the Department of State Service on Friday denied journalists and visitors access into the secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation in Abuja.
The operatives had earlier arrested Aminu Maigari, the Chairman of NFF, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.
Ademola Olajire, NFA ‘sAssistant Director of Communications, confirmed the arrest of Maigari in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.
Olajire, however, said that Maigari was immediately released after interrogation and seizure of his international passport by the DSS.
He said: “I just came into the country last night and we are just hearing all manner of things.
“I am not yet in the office but I am on my way.”
Olajire said Miagari was picked up at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja as he arrived in the country from Brazil after Nigeria was eliminated from the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Operatives of DSS stormed the NFF headquarters on Friday in four vans, preventing movements in and out of the building.
A Jos, Plateau State High Court had on Wednesday ordered the NFF board to vacate the office pending the determination of case against it.
A handful of sports journalists gathered outside the NFF premises to discuss the development.
The denial of entry and exit for non-staff into and out of the secretariat by DSS operatives was to forestall carting away of vital documents from the building.
Meanwhile, only staff members of the football house were allowed entry into the building, while appointees of the board stayed away from the secretariat.
The appointees were not ‘original’ staff of the NFF but were brought in by the incumbent board.
