A 43-year-old driver, Jibril Mohammed, on Friday appeared in a Karmo Grade I Area Court, Abuja for allegedly beating an official of the Airport Junction Motor Park in Jabi, Abuja.
Mohammed, who resides in Lugbe village, Abuja, is charged with assault and causing grievous bodily harm.
The prosecutor, Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that the matter was reported on November 13 at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja by one Biliyaminu Aminu, an official of the park.
Ukagha said at about 1:40pm, one Bashiru Abdullahi, who operated an unpainted taxi picked up passengers against the union rules around the motor park.
She said Aminu politely approached the driver to stop violating park rules, adding that the accused and some others jumped on him and beat him up with sticks.
Ukagha said that in the process, the complainant sustained serious injuries.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79, 265 and 246 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N30,000, with one surety in like sum.
Maiwada adjourned the case until February 14, 2019 for hearing.
