Dramatic night as three English teams make Europa League 1/4 finals

A dramatic night for English teams ended gloriously for the trio of Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle United in the Europa League.
Barely, 24 hours after Arsenal sealed England’s dismal outing in the UEFA Champions League, THE three English club sides surprisingly laboured to quarter finals despite seeming massive first leg advantages.
Emmanuel Adebayor’s extra-time goal earned Tottenham a place in the quarter-finals after they held on to knock out a resurgent Inter.
The Italian side overturned a three-goal deficit from the first leg as Antonio Cassano headed in before Rodrigo Palacio’s finish and a William Gallas own goal drew the tie level.

But a scrambled effort from Vlad Chiriches before the break left Rafael Benitez’s side needing two goals.
Papiss Cisse scored in the last second of the tie to send Newcastle into the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
The Senegal striker headed in Sylvain Marveaux’s cross three minutes into injury time to break the stalemate.
Anzhi Makhachkala were reduced to 10 men when Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez picked up two yellow cards in seven minutes at the start of the second half.
