Borussia Dortmund’s pre-season tour in Asia next month will see them visit Japan, Singapore and Malaysia, the Bundesliga club said on Friday.
Dortmuns said the eight-time national champions and their new coach, Thomas Tuchel, will play Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale on July 7 and Malaysian champions, Johor Southern Tigers, two days later.
Interest in Japan is high as Dortmund have Japan midfielder, Shinji Kagawa, within their ranks and the club opened an office in Singapore eight months ago for a better presence on the continent.
“The people in Asia want the chance to see the stars first-hand, and this is a wish that we would like to take into account. The Bundesliga’s presence in Asian TV markets is increasing. That, in turn, will help us to become better known and more visible,” said Carsten Cramer, club director for sales, marketing and business development.
The July 5 to July 11 trip, ahead of the mid-August Bundesliga start, is Dortmund’s first in Asia since 2007.
