A domestic staff, Monday Odey, who killed his colleague, Abdullahi Yinusa, has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command.
Odey killed Yinusa on April 4, 2019 and has been on the run since then.
The incident, which occurred at 16, Tunde Obitayo Street, Magodo Phase 2, Lagos, was reported by Biodun Ikupoluyi on April 5, 2019.
Ikupoluyi said Odey killed Yinusa at about 7pm.
Odey was said to have hit Yinusa with a shovel on the head and face, which led to his death.
The suspect, who was a security guard like the victim, then fled.
A statement by the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Bala Elkana, said investigation revealed that the suspect has been accused of stealing valuable items belonging to the complainant such as clothes and bicycles among others.
On the day of the incident, Odey was confronted over his incessant stealing habit by the deceased and the suspect picked offence and threatened to kill him.
The complainant, being their employer, responded by sacking the suspect and ordered him to vacate the premises immediately.
Angered by his sack, the suspect returned to the house the same day at about 7pm under the guise of taking his personal belongings from the house, gained access to the premises and murdered Yinusa.
After killing the deceased person, the suspect dumped the corpse at a canal behind their master’s house and absconded.
The Commissioner of Police Lagos State then tasked the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti to ensure that no stone is left unturned in tracking he fugitive suspect and bringing him to face the full wrath of the law.
Following a thorough and painstaking investigation by Homicide detectives from the State CID, the suspect was traced to Iwo, Osun State and apprehended May 2, 2019.
Odey has confessed to the commission of the crime.
Elkana said the suspect will be charged to court for murder.
